Senior Spotlight: Laurenzo will use life skills from Welcome Week while pursuing a medical degree

Name: Scott Laurenzo

Hometown: Johnston, Iowa

What are your future plans?

I will be attending the Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa in my pursuit of an M.D. degree.

Why did you choose Creighton?

I applied to around 13 schools, but I truly felt at home on Creighton’s campus. I could tell that Creighton would help me to become a well-rounded student and a strong medical school applicant. During the decision process, the faculty and staff helped me feel like a member of a community rather than a tuition check.

What has been your favorite memory of Creighton?

Working on the Welcome Week program for three years was my favorite memory. I really enjoyed being a part of the transition process for each year’s new student population, and being an executive and coordinator for Welcome Week taught me a lot of life skills.

What will you take with you from your Creighton experience into the future?

I think I’ve learned the importance of maintaining balance in my life and I will definitely try to continue it into the future. My Creighton experience taught me how to balance my social and academic lives so that I can make lifelong friends, but also gain a lot from the education. Incorporating the Jesuit values into my life has taught me how to be an active and well-respected community member.

What will you miss the most?

I will miss the community the most. I have spent a lot of time at Creighton making many good friends, and it will be very difficult to not be able to simply run into them as I wander around campus.
