“We used to have our GSA exec meetings there, with the comfy couches. We figured out we needed an actual table because we weren’t getting anything done … We were too relaxed!”
What she’d change about CU: More activity after dinner, especially on the mall.
“Campus just shuts down — people go back to their res. halls, and nothing happens.”
Advice for students afraid to come out: Don’t be afraid to be yourself.
“There are a lot of allies on campus. Being a Jesuit Catholic institution, I can see why someone would be afraid, but it is a really great community. The professors and Jesuits are very supportive.”
Advice for students with friends who are LBGTQ: Be supportive.
“It’s OK not to know all the answers. Just be there for them — they’re the same person who they’ve always been.”
Her idol: Slam poet Andrea Gibson.
“She doesn’t just send a message for [members of the LBGTQ community] to be strong, she also raises awareness about other issues. She emphasizes that we need to see humanity in everyone.”
